Installing Quicktime plug-in for Firefox.

I am trying to install quick time to play streaming trailors on quicktime.com
I installed gxine and gxineplugin. Now when I try playing a streaming movie it opens gxine and says buffering %19 and at the same time it will start playing and the buffering will stay at that percent but the screen is blank.

What is the trouble with installing Quicktime?

I can't find the right plug-in from Ubuntu's directory of files to download. I am thinking I need to download quick time right from apple, but I don't think they support Linux. Only Apple and Microsoft.

Please keep us posted. I'm running FireFox 2.0.0.4 on Ubuntu 7.04 with similar results. The slider shows up, but the movie never plays and the slider never moves.

I use Mplayer for my plugin problems in firefox. I would not recommend installing it from the repositories, but rather compiling it from source.

I tried a long time... bot SOLVED the problem:

1) open firefox, go to Edit-->Preferences-->Content and manage file types. Here you can see, which plugins are installed at the moment.

2) use "apt-cache search" to find these plugins and deinstall them with "apt-get remove"

3) repeat 1) until all packages are gone and no file types remain associated

4) if everything is clean, "apt-get install mplayer mozilla-mplayer"

5) restart firefox --> WORKS

6) goto www.apple.com/trailers and try

cheers

Thanks! I didn't remove all extensions,
just did as suggested above:
sudo apt-get install mplayer mozilla-mplayer

...and that was it. restarted firefox and voilla.
